All 10 Special Powers in 2D Football Wars — Cooldowns and Unlocks

Updated 2026-10-01 · Fan-made guide for 2D Football Wars · Not affiliated with Alpha Dolphin Games

Special powers are what turn a football match into a war. 2D Football Wars has exactly ten powers: five available from the start on keys 1–5 (or 6–0 for Player 2), and five that unlock through career feats. Every cooldown, duration and unlock condition below is read from the game's own v1.1.0 build — including the ones the game only hints at with a lock icon.

The five starter powers

Your default loadout holds these five; each sits on its own independent cooldown, shown on the HUD power panels:

PowerKey (P1)CooldownEffect
Power Kick 🔥120sYour next kick within 6s strikes with devastating force
Speed Boost ⚡230sBlistering pace for 5 seconds
Magnetic Control 🧲340sThe ball is drawn to your feet for 4 seconds
Triple Kick Combo 🎯445s3 boosted kicks with no recovery, within 8 seconds
Super Jump 🚀560sLeap higher and double-jump for 6 seconds

Armed, timed and instant — how powers actually fire

The game groups powers into four kinds, and knowing the difference makes you noticeably better: armed powers (Power Kick, Curve Shot, Thunder Strike) buff your next kick inside a 6-second window, so activate them, then create the shooting chance — not the other way around. Timed powers (Speed Boost, Magnetic Control, Triple Kick, Super Jump, Shield Wall) run for a fixed duration, which makes them defensive tools as much as attacking ones. Freeze Ball is instant — it fires the moment you press it, freezing an airborne ball in place. Goal Explosion is passive and purely cosmetic.

Loadouts: building your five

Once powers unlock, you can rearrange your five loadout slots in the Powers menu (Goal Explosion, being cosmetic, is excluded from slots). Sensible builds: keep Power Kick permanent, pair Curve Shot with Thunder Strike for two tiers of armed shot, and round out with either a mobility pair (Speed Boost + Super Jump) or a control pair (Magnetic Control + Shield Wall) depending on whether you struggle to create chances or to stop them.

The cheapest unlock path

Ten career goals is a single good session — Curve Shot is nearly always your first unlock. Three wins (Freeze Ball) and five blocks (Shield Wall) follow within a few more matches if you defend actively. The expensive ones are Thunder Strike (a clean tournament run) and Goal Explosion (fifty career goals), which arrive naturally over a week of daily play.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many powers are in 2D Football Wars?

Ten: five starter powers (Power Kick, Speed Boost, Magnetic Control, Triple Kick Combo, Super Jump) and five unlockables (Curve Shot, Freeze Ball, Shield Wall, Thunder Strike, Goal Explosion).

How do I unlock Curve Shot?

Score 10 goals in your career — match goals across any mode count. Curve Shot is an armed power on a 25-second cooldown that makes your next kick bend around defenders.

What are the power keys?

Player 1 uses keys 1–5 and Player 2 uses 6–0 by default; both are rebindable. The loadout menu lets you assign unlocked powers to any of your five slots.

Which power has the shortest cooldown?

Power Kick at 20 seconds. It is armed — it buffs your next kick within a 6-second window — which makes it the most spammable and often the most valuable power in the game.
